Those sharing old videos of me endorsing Obaseki are doomed – Oshiomhole

Adams Oshiomhole, the erstwhile national chairman of the All Progressive Congress (APC), says the ship of those sharing old video clips where he is seen praising Godwin Obaseki, the incumbent Edo State governor, is sinking.

Messrs Obaseki and Oshiomhole, who were friends after the former took over from the latter, became political rivals struggling for relevance despite the duo belonging to the same political party. Trouble began last year June during the composition of the Edo State House of Assembly (ESHA) with the duo fighting for control of the legislature.

Majority of lawmakers-elect, presumed loyalists of Oshiomhole, were reportedly shut out during the inauguration and composition of the legislative arm. The ceremony said to have held at odd hours was attended by lawmakers in support of the governor.

Those who did not participate fled to Abuja over fear of their safety until recently when they returned to the state and teamed up with some of their colleagues who initially supported the governor and created a faction of the ESHA.

The legislative chamber now has two leadership, each parading itself as authentic.

Before campaigns officially began earlier this month, critics of Oshiomhole, a former governor of the state, began circulating video clips during and after the last governorship election in 2016.

In one of the videos, the APC chieftain is seen describing Osagie Ize-Iyamu, the current gubernatorial candidate of his party, as a thief unworthy of handling public funds. He made the blistering remark while marketing Obaseki, his then preferred candidate now successor.

In another clip, shot two years after the governor took over, the former governor praised his successor, describing his achievements as outstanding.

The governor after being disqualified over his academic credentials said to be deceptive, moved to the PDP and its flagbearer for the September 19 race.

Their ship sinking faster

But on Saturday, Oshiomhole said those still circulating the old video clips are doomed.

“See them circulating old videos of Oshiomhole endorsing the MOU governor,” he said in a tweet.

“What other proof do you need to know that their ship is sinking real fast?” Oshiomhole queried.
