Ondo deputy gov, Ajayi, dumps APC for PDP

Agboola Ajayi, the deputy governor of Ondo State, has resigned his membership from the All Progressive Congress (APC).

Mr Ajayi who took the decision today, immediately defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The opposition party confirmed this development in a tweet.

“Breaking News! The Deputy Governor of Ondo state, Hon. Agboola Ajayi has resigned his membership of the failed @OfficialAPCNg. Hon. Agboola after his resignation, picked the @OfficialPDPNig membership card at Ward 2, Apoi, in Ese Odo Local Government Area of Ondo State,” the PDP tweeted.

The deputy governor is said to be having political differences with his principal, Rotimi Akeredolu. He is said to be planning to succeed the governor in the coming October 10 governorship election despite Mr Akeredolu signifying his interest to seek re-election.

Before his defection, Mr Ajayi was seen in a video, which is still circulating on social media, being prevented from leaving the government house in a vehicle he is said to own.

The state commissioner of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), Bolaji Salami, said he did so to prevent a clash between the supporters of Mr Ajayi and his principal.
