Ize-Iyamu emerges Edo APC governorship candidate

Osagie Ize-Iyamu, a former Secretary to the State Government (SSG) of Edo State has emerged the winner of the All Progressive Congress (APC) governorship primary in the state.

With that, Mr Ize-Iyamu is now the candidate of the APC in the September 19 governorship election.

Announcing the results of primary conducted across 192 wards in the state, Hope Uzodimma, the chairman of the primary committee and governor of Imo State, declared the former SSG winner of the exercise.

“Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu is hereby returned the candidate of the All Progressives Congress in the forthcoming gubernatorial elections in Edo State, haven scored the highest vote cast in the primaries election,” Mr Uzodimma announced.

“Pastor Ize-Iyamu scored a total of 27,838 votes from the votes fielded from the various wards & Local Government Areas (LGAs) across Edo State,” he added.

Having emerged the gubernatorial candidate of the APC, Mr Ize-Iyamu is expected to face whoever the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will pick as its governorship candidate.

Already, an aspirant of the opposition party has stepped down for Godwin Obaseki, the state governor who is seeking a second term in office on the platform of the PDP having recently joined the party after being disqualified from participating in that of the APC.

Mr Obaseki will have to slug it out with the two remaining aspirants in the PDP primary slated for Thursday this week and whoever emerges becomes the candidate of the PDP.
