EFCC: Obiano moved to Abuja, yet to regain freedom

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) says it only moved immediate-past Anambra governor, Willie Obiano, to its Abuja headquarters.

Mr Obiano was intercepted at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport in Lagos Thursday evening en route the United States of America, hours after handing over power to Governor Charles Soludo.

Wilson Uwujaren, spokesman of the anti-graft agency, made the clarification Friday morning while reacting to the reported release of Mr Obiano, who completed his two tenure of fours years each, yesterday.

“The ex-governor was arrested in Lagos, but was moved to Abuja this morning (Friday),” Uwujiaren clarified to News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

The commission had last year placed him on its watchlist, alerting Immigrations and other sister agencies. His offence is yet to be ascertained as at press time.
