Alleged Murder: Police release LP chairman Abure

Julius Abure, the national chairman of the Labour Party (LP) has been released from Police custody.

Mr Abure was arrested Wednesday afternoon over alleged murder, conspiracy and possession of fire arms, according to a statement by Tijani Momoh, spokesman for the Zone 5 Police said.

Mr Momoh and Obiora Ifoh, the national spokesperson of the LP, separately confirmed the release of the opposition leader who is facing another accusation of misappropriating the party’s funds during the general elections last year.

“Julius Abure is in his hotel room here in Benin City,” Mr Ifoh said during a breakfast programme on Channels TV Thursday morning.

The release comes hours after Peter Obi condemned the arrest, saying the top politician ought to be invited and not harassed and manhandled as social media clips showed.
