Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State says the children of Iyorchia Ayu, national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), will disown their father if he reveals the underhand dealings involving the embattled opposition chieftain.
Mr Wike stated this on Friday during a media chat in Port Harcourt where he insisted on the resignation of Mr Ayu from office, a request he and his allies have continued to make since after the emergence of Atiku Abubakar, a former vice president, as the party’s presidential candidate.
After challenging the PDP chieftain to deny he received the sum of N1 billion from a presidential candidate on the pretext that state governors were not willing to fund the party, the Rivers State helmsman has reiterated the allegation, adding that a sitting governor gave Mr Ayu N100 million, all of the funds unaccounted for because they were not paid into the account of the party.
“In fact, let me also tell you, Ayu collected N100 million from a governor,” he alleged. “If not for the love of this party, if we release what we have, Ayu’s children will go to him and say we are no longer your children.”
Mr Abubakar who is being pressured to force Mr Ayu to resign, said he lacks the power to do so, a claim refuted by the Rivers governor.
