Tambuwal Reelected Sokoto Governor

Aminu Tambuwal, governor of Sokoto State has been reelected for a second term in office.

Mr Tambuwal, of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) narrowly defeated Ahmad Aliyu, his former deputy and governorship candidate of the All Progressive Congress (APC) after a supplementary election which held in the state on Saturday, with 342 votes.

During the first exercise on March 9 wherein the election was declared inconclusive, the governor led with 489,558 votes, while his opponent at the time polled 486,145 votes.

In the supplementary election held on Saturday, the former speaker of the House of Representative scored 22,444 votes while Aliyu got 25,515.

According to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) the PDP candidate got a total of 512,002 votes while the flag bearer of the APC in the election gathered 511,660.

The pronouncement was made by the returning officer for the election, Fatimah Mukhtar, at the state capital on Sunday.
