Godwin Obaseki, the Edo State governor, has picked the expression of interest and nomination forms of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Mr Obaseki who joined the opposition party yesterday purchased the form at the National Headquarters of the party in Abuja, the nation’s capital.
He was disqualified from seeking re-election using the platform of the All Progressive Congress (APC). His academic credentials were said to be deceptive while political analysts said he was shown the way out due to his battle with his predecessor, Adams Oshiomhole, the suspended national chairman of the party.
While the APC choosed direct primary slated for June 22, the PDP opted for indirect primary scheduled to hold June 25. Except the unexpected happens, the governor is to battle and defeat the three aspirants of the opposition party if he must emerged the candidate of the PDP in the September 19 election.
Meanwhile, Atiku Abubakar, former vice president and the presidential candidate of the opposing party, has welcomed the governor for joining the PDP.
Congratulations, @GovernorObaseki on joining our party, @OfficialPDPNig—the truly people's party. I am confident that the people of Edo State will be the better for it. You are indeed coming aboard a repositioned PDP that promotes good governance for the benefit of Nigerians. -AA https://t.co/bSKc95yciN
