Security agencies and unknown gunmen are reportedly engaging themselves in gun battle said to have lasted for over three hours as at press time.
The battle, according to The Nation, is in Ihiala where the supplementary election for the Anambra guber race is taking place after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared it inconclusive.
Over 1,000 police cops were said to have been deployed to the local government area which did not take part during the governorship election on Saturday.
The national daily reports that one of its correspondents ran into the combine team comprising of Army, Police, Immigration and other security agencies at Mbosi Osumowu junction where the reporter was asked to turn back for safety.
“We’ve been here for the past three hours exchanging fire with them,” a police officer said, cautioning that, “You better reverse and take a safer route.”
