Governor Dave Umahi of Ebonyi State has appealed to his Rivers counterpart, Nyesom Wike, to deliver votes of the oil rich state during next year’s presidential election to Bola Tinubu, the candidate of the All Progressive Congress (APC).
Mr Umahi made the demand on Tuesday while commissioning the Akpabu-Itu-Umudiogha road in the Emohua Local Government Area of the state.
Mr Wike has been pledging to provide logistics support to presidential candidates he invited for commissioning of projects in the state, an assistance the Ebonyi State governor said the ruling party’s candidate would not be needing.
He said the former Lagos governor will be coming to campaign for votes and not for logistics support.
“You are a doer of promise. When you say you will give logistics support, you will but in APC, we don’t need logistics support, we need votes, just for the presidential one only, please,” Mr Umahi solicited.
“All I am asking is that presidential one, that presidential one keep it for Asiwaju (Tinubu) and Asiwaju will be coming here to solicit votes.”
Mr Wike who belongs to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has withdrawn his support for Atiku Abubakar, the flag-bearer of the opposition party.
The governor and his colleagues in Abia, Enugu, Oyo and Benue States, codenamed G5 Governors, are demanding the ousting of Iyorchia Ayu, the national chairman of the PDP before they can support the former vice president, who has refused to prevail on Mr Ayu to step aside, claiming he has no such powers.
