Festus Keyamo, junior labour minister and campaign spokesman of the All Progressive Congress Presidential Campaign Council APCPCC has explained why the name of Vice President Yemi Osinbajo is missing in the list of APCPCC.
Mr Osinbajo’s name was noticably absent when the 422-member Tinubu-Shettima presidential campaign council list was made public on Friday.
In some quarters, reports emerged that Messrs Tinubu and Osinbajo, who both contested the APC presidential primary before the latter lost the ticket to the former, were at loggerheads.
Offering the explanation in a statement on Saturday, Mr Keyamo said President Muhammadu Buhari who doubles as the chairman of the campaign council deliberately omitted the name of the Vice President.
He explained that Mr Buhari singled-out Mr Osinbajo and the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) Boss Mustapha, to pilot the issue of governance during the campaign period.
“…Mr President has specifically directed that the Vice President and the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha, should be left out of the campaign council to concentrate on the governance of the country and administration of government,” he explained.
“As a responsible party and government, all the key functionaries of government cannot abandon their positions for electioneering campaigns. The APC has the mandate of the Nigerian people to administer the country on their behalf till at least May 29, 2023, and this we intend to do will all sense of responsibility,” the statement partly read.
