Poll Shift: National Assembly Reschedules Resumption

The National Assembly has rescheduled its resumption date due to the postponement of this year’s general election.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had on Saturday rescheduled the presidential and parliamentary elections billed to commence the same day.

It also shifted that of gubernatorial and state assemblies, citing logistical challenges as the reason for the postponement. The new date for the commencement of the election is next Saturday.

Annoucing the decision of the federal parliament to shift the date for resumption, Mohammed Sani-Omolori, the clerk of the national assembly cited the election postponement.

“This is to inform all distinguished senators and honourable members that resumption of plenary session earlier scheduled for Tuesday Feb. 19 has been postponed to Tuesday, Feb. 26 due to the postponement of the national elections,” Mr Sani-Omolori said in a statement on Sunday.

“All distinguished senators and honourable members are expected to resume plenary session by 10 a.m. on Feb. 26 please,” he added.
