Nigerians Reacts To Buhari’s Threat To Deal With Obasanjo

Nigerians have reacted to the threat by President Muhammadu Buhari to teach Former President, Olusegun Obasanjo, a political lesson the latter would never forget.

Prior to the 2015 general election, Mr Obasanjo had played a vital role which saw Mr Buhari defeat then incumbent president, Goodluck Jonathan.

That was also a first time an opposition candidate would defeat a sitting president who is seeking re-election in the country.

As the 2019 general election draws near, Obasanjo in an open letter, advised the president not to seek re-election on account of incompetence, nepotism among others.

The advise of the former president seemed to have fell on deaf ears as Buhari did not adhere and declared his interest to seek re-election.

The president did not only stop at that, he accused Obasanjo of siphoning $16 billion power funds of the country.

On Sunday, the former president again attacked the president accusing him of planning to rig the forthcoming election.

He also criticised the programmes of the government describing them as idiotic.

The president in turn promised to deal politically with the former president, teaching him a lesson he and his cohorts will never forget in their lifetime on earth.

Obasanjo is supporting Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to challenge the president.

Messrs Obasanjo and Abubakar served the country from 1999 to 2007 as president and vice president respectively. Until recently, the duo were political enemies to themselves.

While the former vice president popularly known as Atiku was said to have thwarted the third term ambition of his principal, Obasanjo, last year said God will never forgive him should he support Atiku but recent political developments in the country has forced the former president to backtrack.

Buhari’s promise to deal with the former president has got Nigerians talking, some of their reactions are reproduced below.

Meanwhile, a minister serving under Buhari has described Obasanjo as the the only patriotic Nigerian he has seen on earth.
