Ahmad Lawan, President of the nineth Senate says under his leadership, the National Assembly will not disagree with President Muhammadu Buhari to please anyone.
Mr Lawan made the comment yesterday while playing host to Abdullahi Liman Tukur, vice-chancellor of Modibbo Adama University, and Aishatu Dahiru Ahmed, Adamawa senator, in Abuja.
The red chamber under the top lawmaker got the sobriquet “Rubber Stamp Senate” by critics who often cite the role of the president in ensuring he emerged and the endorsement of every demand made to the Senate by the president without refusing, especially in the aspect of approving loans.
Addressing his visitors, the number three citizen said since the inception of the lawmaking arm much have been achieved and this can be attributed the unity in the national assembly.
“The ninth national assembly has achieved so much between 2019 till date for the benefit of this country despite the pandemic, and the secret is unity and harmony,” Lawan said.
“We have achieved unity amongst ourselves in the national assembly environment between the senate and the house; and of course, we have achieved harmony in work between the national assembly and the executive, and that’s the essence of governance, anyway.
“When we disagree, we will do so, but if we have no reason to disagree, we will not do that because we want to please anybody,” the lawmaker added.
