Peter Obi, the vice presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Saturday escaped death in Abuja, the nation’s capital.
Mr Obi, a former Anambra State governor, is the running mate of Atiku Abubakar, the candidate of the PDP for the presidential election next weekend.
According to a Facebook user, Blossom Martins, who narrated how the incident happened said the former governor had stormed a building materials market in the city seeking votes from traders at the commercial area.
Mr Martins said after Obi finished with the business of the day and was on his way out when a convoy of supporters belonging to the All Progressive Congress (APC) intercepted him and was about lynching before youths from the area mainly from the South East came to his rescue.
The account of Martins seems to tally with that of another Facebook user, Chinonso Nelson, who shared the video from the attack.
This development is also coming a week after vice president, Yemi Osinbajo, escaped death after a chopper conveying him and his crew crash landed in Kogi State.
Mr Osinbajo is the running mate of President Muhammadu Buhari who seeks a return to office for the second time on the platform of the APC.
Messrs Buhari and Abubakar are major contestants in the presidential race even though there are others seeking the same exalted office in the land.
