Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Lagos State governor, has made known public his plan to halt pensions paid to his predecessors.
Mr Sanwo-Olu made this known while presenting the budget for next year to the state house of assembly today.
Although details of the development remained sketchy as at press time, his senior special assistant on new media, Jubril Gawat, confirmed this in Tuesday afternoon tweet.
“FLASH: Governor of Lagos State, Mr @jidesanwoolu has announced his intention, through executive bill, to REPEAL the Public Office Holder (Payment of Pension Law 2007), which provides for payment of pension & other entitlements to former Governors and their Deputies,” Mr Gawat corroborated.
Akinwunmi Ambode; Babatunde Fashola, Works and Housing Minister and Bola Tinubu, a chieftain of the All Progressive Congress (APC) are all former governors of the state to be affected by the new development.
