Samuel Ortom, the governor of Benue State, has said he can’t go back to the All Progressive Congress (APC).
Mr Ortom made the statement on Friday while reacting to rumored speculation that he was making plans to return to ruling party at the center.
The governor who is expected to begin his second term next month was re-elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
First elected governor on the platform of the APC in 2015, he dumped the the party when he appeared helpless to curb the brutal clashes between farmers and armed herdsmen in his domain.
“I have no reason whatsoever to leave PDP, the party that re-elected me. I am a card-carrying member of this party,” Ortom said while addressing reporters in Makurdi, the state capital.
“I also built the party. I can’t go back to APC; there is no basis for that. There is nothing wrong with me in the party,” he added.
