The Zamfara State House of Assembly has finally impeached the deputy governor, Mahdi Aliyu Gusau, after several failed attempts.
Mr Gusau was impeached on Wednesday during plenary after a seven-man committee, constituted to probe alleged insubordination levelled against him, submitted its findings.
He was also accused of abusing his office, criminal self-enrichment using public fund and failure to discharge official duties after refusing to decamp to the All Progressive Congress (APC) with Governor Bello Matawalle last year.
The Chief Judge of the state, Justice Kulu Aliyu, had last week inaugurated the committee headed by retired judge, Tanko Soba.
Mr Matawalle defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) but the now-ousted deputy governor stayed back prompting lawmakers to move against him.
The plots to remove Mr Gusau began last year but met legal hurdles with a retrial staged at the beginning of the year.
