Aisha Buhari, wife of President Muhammadu Buhari is neither pregnant nor sick, her aide, Sulaiman Haruna, says.
Reports, accompanied by series of photographs, went rife Monday evening that 50-year-old Mrs Buhari is pregnant. Another, quoting presidential sources at the seat of power, debunked the rumor but said the president’s wife was ill and her swollen stomach seen in the photos were attributed to the results of the medication the first lady took.
Mrs Buhari had journeyed to Turkey with her husband to Instanbul. The president went for the third Africa-Turkey summit and returned with his wife on Sunday afternoon as announced by the presidency.
On Monday evening, photographs of the return began circulating online with Mrs Buhari beside her husband with the baby bomb which she comfortably placed her right hand on . TODAY POLITICS traced the photos to presidential spokesman, Femi Adesina, who released them Monday afternoon.
Speaking to BBC Pidgin while refuting the rumors, Mr Haruna suggested the photos were doctored by mischief makers.
“I can assure you 100 percent that our first lady is perfectly okay. She is neither sick nor pregnant as some reports claim,” he said. “Some of these reports are from mischief makers who don’t mean well. You know, nowadays, people can tamper with photos.”
Mr Adesina, when contacted, did not respond to calls and messages sent to his telephone numbers Tuesday morning.
