President Muhammadu Buhari today met with Osagie Ize-Iyamu, the gubernatorial candidate of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in the Edo State governorship election.
Mr Ize-Iyamu alongside the chairman of the caretaker committee of the APC, Mai Buni, the chairman of the state campaign council and governor of Kano State, Umar Ganduje and his Kebbi counterpart, Atiku Bagudu, visited the president who then endorsed the party’s candidate by handing over the flag of the party to him.
The event which took place at the seat of power, Aso Villa, Abuja, seals the candidacy of the former Secretary to the Edo State Government, as the flagbearer of the APC in the September 19 guber poll.
The APC candidate is expected to face Godwin Obaseki, the incumbent governor of the state who is seeking re-election on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Although there are other political parties whose candidates are also seeking the top job, it is widely viewed as a contest between the opposing APC and the ruling PDP.
