Atiku Abubakar, a former vice president, says with the governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, leading the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) campaign council in Edo State, he is assured of victory in the September 19 governorship election.
Mr Wike, a second term governor, was on Friday appointed to pilot the affairs of the campaign council of the opposition party in ensuring Godwin Obaseki, Edo State governor who is seeking re-election wins the race.
Congratulating Wike and Ahmadu Fintiri, his Adamawa State counterpart who was also appointed to deputise him, the presidential candidate of the PDP in the last general election, in a Saturday tweet, expressed satisfaction, urging all to join hands with the duo and lead the party to victory.
I am confident that your leadership, supported by Governor Ahmadu Fintiri, the Vice-Chairman, and other members of the PDP #Edo2020 Council will work assiduously for the victory of @GovernorObaseki, and set Edo State on the path of even greater development. -AA

Mr Obaseki who initially decided to seek a second term in office on the platform of the All Progressive Congress (APC) was disqualified from using the platform over his academic credentials said to be deceptive. Political analysts are of the opinion that he was disallowed to contest the APC primary due to his political battle with his successor, Adams Oshiomhole.
Mr Wike has been one of the political bigwigs in the PDP the Edo governor ran to for help when he was disqualified. His host whom many believe has the experience in fighting godfatherism, having defeated his successor twice, is somewhat a boost to his political ambition.
