The candidate of Accord Party, Godday Idahosa, for the September 19 gubernatorial election, has dumped his party and has defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Moving into the ruling party with his supporters, Mr Idahosa declared his support for the re-election of governor Godwin Obaseki, who seeks a second term in office.
Although, 14 political parties are to participate in the next month exercise, according to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the race is largely regarded as a contest between the PDP and the All Progressive Congress (APC), which has Osagie Ize-Iyamu, as its governorship candidate.
“I said by God’s grace that I can’t fight my people. When you are being fought outside, you run back home for refuge,” Idahosa said.
“Our governor is doing well. He is a great man and he deserves to be re-elected. Even the sun and moon will cooperate to work for his success.
“In this election, my supporters and I are going to work for Obaseki. I am leading hundreds of my supporters to PDP today,” he added.
Dan Orbih, the state chairman of the state PDP received the defectors into the party.
