Court nullifies A’Ibom APC guber primary, bars Udofia from participating during fresh primary

A Federal High Court sitting in Uyo, Akwa Ibom has nullified the governorship primary of the All Progressive Congress (APC) held in the State.

Senator Ita Enang, a former presidential aide to President Muhammadu Buhari, had dragged Akan Udofia, winner of the May 2022 exercise to court, arguing that the latter was not a member of the party.

The plaintiff said the primary was characterised by several irregularities which Mr Udofia countered.

The defendant, responding to claims that he was not a member of the APC, said the opposition party in the state gave him a waiver, qualifying him to participate during the exercise.

Delivering judgment on Monday, Justice Agatha Okeke, annulled the primary and ordered a fresh one be conducted in two weeks time.

The judge also barred Mr Udofia from participating during the new primary while dismissing the purported waiver granted to him.
