The All Progressive Congress (APC) has won the state governorship election in Kwara State.
Before now, the state is being controlled presently by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) which had Razaq Atunwa, as its gubernatorial candidate for the election.
Abdulrahman Abdulrasaq, the APC candidate which won the race polled 331,546 votes.
Mr Atunwa trailed behind him with 114,754 votes to come second. He had the backing of Bukola Saraki, president of the 8th Senate, who also lost his third term bid of returning to the red chamber.
The top lawmaker was a former governor of the state and was succeeded by Abdulfattah Ahmed.
Meanwhile, Mr Saraki has congratulated Mr Abdulrasaq for his victory at the poll while thanking supporters of the PDP who worked for the party during the race.
“I thank all Kwarans, particularly PDP supporters, who worked for the party in the just concluded elections. My congratulations go to Abdulrahman Abdulrasaq and all those who emerged at all levels. I wish them all the best,” the lawmaker said through his Twitter handle on Sunday.
