Electorates in Anambra State on Saturday trooped out to choose between 18 candidates who should succeed outgoing governor Willie Obiano.
Mr Obiano is backing one of the contestants Charles Soludo of the ruling All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA).
Mr Soludo, a former central bank governor is expected to slug it out with seventeen other opponents who are wooing about 2.5 million voters in the state that has a history of low voter turnout.
The exercise which took place in over five thousand polling units witnessed massive vote-buying, malfunctioning of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS), late arrival of electoral officials and absence of security agencies despite thousands deployed for the exercise that was initially threatened due to sit-at-home order of foremost separatist group IPOB.
That notwithstanding, the election has been peaceful in most places though police ‘overpowered’ some political thugs who attempted to cart away ballot boxes in some areas.
Below are live updates of results from various polling units.
