Aminu Mohammed, a critic of Aisha Buhari, wife of Nigeria’s president, has been secretly arraigned and imprisoned, according to his uncle.
Mr Mohammed, a final year student of the Federal University, Dutse, Jigawa State, was reportedly arrested for criticising the wife of the president, whom he claimed was feeding fat on masses’ money.
The student who made the claim on Twitter earlier in the month was manhandled and incarcerated, all of which became public glare last week.
He was brutalised alongside a former social media aide to the first lady, Zainab Kazeem, who was released afterwards on the condition that her ordeal be kept away from public glare.
On Wednesday, Daily Nigerian, an online news platform, quoted his uncle, Shehu Baba-Azare, as saying the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) indicated interested to arraigned the suspect on Tuesday but informed the family that the arraignment has been postponed to Wednesday.
Mr Baba-Azare said the family of the detained student later found out that the police went ahead to secretly arraigned the student at a federal high court in Abuja same Tuesday.
TODAY POLITICS could not immediately verify if Mr Mohammed was legally represented in what the uncle described as a secret arraignment.
“It’s clearly a secret arraignment because they did not inform us,” Mr Baba-Azare said. “We are very concerned about his situation. He will sit for his final exam on December 5.”
