The Abia State government has announced a N25 million bounty on the killers of the five soldiers in Aba, yesterday.
The soldiers lost their lives in the attack when masked gunmen raided their Obikabia junction checkpoint, razing two military trucks in the process.
The incident, described as unfortunate by the Information Commissioner, Okey Kanu, in a statement on Friday, occured while the annual Biafra day to commemorate the over three million Igbos who lost their during and after the civil war.
The governor condoled with the Chief of Army Staff, Taoreed Lagbaja over the incident, Mr Kanu said.
“To underscore its resolve, the State Government is offering a N25 million (Twenty-five Million Naira) reward to anyone with useful information that could lead to the location and arrest of any of the criminals connected to the unfortunate killings, and the subsequent state of apprehension across the city of Aba and environs,” the statement reads.
“The security formations in the State have been directed to treat informants with all the confidentiality required to guarantee their full cooperation and assistance until the criminals are fully apprehended and brought to book.”
Meanwhile, the military has threatened to retaliate, vowing that its response will be brutal.
