Nyesom Wike, immediate-past governor of Rivers State, says President Bola Tinubu will not regret nominating him a minister in his cabinet.
Mr Wike stated this on Monday while being screened at the Nigerian Senate as a ministerial nominee.
“I thank Mr President for nominating me, I believe knowing how hungry Mr President is to solving the problems of Nigeria we have no choice but to give him that required support,” the former governor said. “…I can assure you, if I’m confirmed, in whichever, whatever capacity, Mr President would not regret nominating me.”
Mr Tinubu had last week named him among 28 nominees, despite that the former governor currently belongs to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
He is alleged to have been nominated as a compensation for ensuring his own party lost the February presidential election to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state due to squabbles between him and Atiku Abubakar, candidate of the opposing PDP.
As at press time, Mr Wike who mounted the podium to be screened after his nominee-colleague, Abubakar Momoh, from Edo state, was asked to bow and go for being a two-time lawmaker at the House of Representatives, has been confirmed a minister.
