Nyesom Wike, governor of Rivers State has narrated how operatives of the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (FSARS) kidnapped a resident in the state and demand ransom thereafter.
Mr Wike’s account made before the 2019 general election resurfaced on the internet amidst demands by Nigerians calling for the scrapping of the police brutal squad unit.
In a protest that has now gone globally, they are insisting on nothing else but an end to the unit of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) headed by Mohammed Adamu.
In a video trending on social media, the Rivers State helmsman said a resident of Oroazi, where he hails from was kidnapped by gunmen who were later identified by the uniform they wore.
“Some people when to a residence and kidnapped somebody and took him in their vehicle for him to go and withdraw five hundred naira from Fidelity Bank as ransom,” Mr Wike, who has severally called for the reform of the outfit, is heard narrating.
“Luckily, the brother of the victim had to call the IG squad that is based in Port Harcourt. When they now moved, the men were wearing SARS uniform and these men fired the IG squad and they retaliated and gun down one of the SARS men.
“They were three, two of them ran away,” he said while showcasing a document in that regard.
Nigerians this morning continued their demands for the disbandment of the police brutal unit.
