Why I recognised Giadom as APC acting national chairman – Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari has recognized Victor Giadom, as the acting national chairman of the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC).

Mr Buhari made this known on Wednesday in a statement released by his spokesman, Garba Shehu.

Mr Giadom, drawing his power from the court order which suspended Adams Oshiomhole, as the national chairman of the party, declared himself as replacement for the former Edo State governor.

His declaration contravened the position of the National Working Committee (NWC) which appointed Abiola Ajimobi, to take over, going by the party constitution.

Mr Ajimobi’s faction, currently headed by Hilliard Eta, announced the suspension of Giadom as the national secretary and replaced him thereafter. This did not deter the self-acclaimed acting chairman who has gone ahead to call for the National Executive Council (NEC) meeting.

The meeting is scheduled to hold at the Presidential Villa instead of taking place at the National Headquarters of the party.

For the president, he is throwing his weight behind Giadom after receiving convincing legal advice on the position of the law. Mr Shehu who made this known said his principal will will attending the meeting tomorrow.

“The President has received very convincing advice on the position of the law as far as the situation in the party is concerned and has determined that the law is on the side of Victor Giadom as Acting National Chairman,” the presidential spokesman said.

“Because he will always act in accordance with the law, the President will be attending the virtual meeting Giadom called for tomorrow afternoon.

“We urge the media to stop promoting manufactured controversies and to not give any further room for mischievous interpretations of the law on this matter.

“In addition to the President, the Giadom meeting will, hopefully, be attended by our Governors and the leaders of the National Assembly,” he added.
