Aminu Tambuwal, the preferred candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to emerge the Minority leader of the Nigerian Senate, has lost the position to another lawmaker.
During plenary on Tuesday, the immediate-past governor of Sokoto lost the position to Simon Mwadkwon, lawmaker representing Plateau north senatorial district.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio named Mr Mwadkwon as the leader of the minority consisting of seven political parties at the red chamber.
To deputise him is Oyewumi Olalere, senatorial representative of Osun West.
Darlington Nwokocha from Abia and Rufai Anga from Kano emerged Minority Whip and Deputy Minority Whip respectively.
“The minority caucus of the senate is made up of about seven political parties and have come up with their leadership so I will proceed to announce [the names],” Mr Akpabio announced. “Senator Simon Mwadkwon, minority leader, Oyewumi Olalere, deputy minority leader, senator Darlington Nwokocha, minority whip, and senator Rufai Anga, deputy minority whip.”
