The Supreme Court on Wednesday upheld the re-election of Rotimi Akeredolu as governor of Ondo State.
His major challenger, Eyitayo Jegede and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) had argued that the nomination form of the All Progressive Congress (APC) governor was signed by Mai Buni, another sitting governor who doubles as the acting national chairman of the ruling party.
The opposition party cited constitutional provision forbidding sitting governors from holding executive positions outside their statutory position as state helmsmen.
They lost the case at the Appeal Court last month and approached the Supreme Court where four out of the seven-man panel has now thrown out their case for lacking in merit.
