Rivers: Tinubu intervenes in Fubara, Wike rift

President Bola Tinubu on Tuesday intervened in the political crisis rocking Rivers State lately.

The chairman of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Governor of Bauchi State, Bala Mohammed, disclosed this to reporters at the Presidential Villa.

The rift between Governor Simi Fubara of Rivers State and his predecessor who is now the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Nyesom Wike, went out of control earlier this week.

An alleged plot to impeach Mr Fubara resulted in the burning of the state House of Assembly complex Sunday night. Some lawmakers converged early at the premises, the following morning, to oust the house majority leader and ordered the clerk to serve the impeachment notice on the governor.

Mr Fubara and his aides were initially resisted by the police condoning the area from accessing the area before the governor and his entourage finally made headway.

The action of the lawmakers, said to be loyal to the former governor, has factionalized the lawmaking arm with the suspended majority leader, Edison Ehie, elected speaker by another faction now recognized by the governor.

He declared the action of the aggrieved lawmakers a nullity while challenging them to make public his offense that warrants impeachment.

On Tuesday, both the minister and the governor attended the police council meeting chaired by the president and attended by other ministers and governors at the Council Chamber in Abuja.

They were seen exchanging pleasantries before the meeting took off.
