President Bola Tinubu on Thursday said reinstating the old national anthem was his priority, dismissing criticism that trailed its reintroduction.
Many Nigerians, including Reno Omokri, a former presidential aide, who supports the Nigerian leader, described the reintroduction as misplaced priority.
The House of Representatives passed a bill to that effect last week, while the Senate endorsed it on Tuesday and the president assented to it a day after.
“Let me allude to something that happened yesterday (Wednesday), The president said on Thursday when he hosted members of the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) at the Presidential Villa in Abuja. “The change of national anthem, ‘Nigeria, we hail thee.’
“Some people say, okay… say what? Is that your priority? It’s my priority. I agree with the National Assembly. If they make law, I’ve got to obey that law, or we disagree openly and close the chapter.”
