The Ondo House of Assembly has confirmed Olayide Adelami as the new deputy governor.
Mr Adelami was nominated on Wednesday by Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa.
He was screened on the floor of the Ondo parliament during a plenary.
His confirmation by the lawmakers of the Assembly on Thursday followed the submission and consideration of a report by the House Selection Committee, headed by the speaker, Olamide Oladiji.
Jaiyeola Benjamin, the parliament’s clerk, read the letter forwarded to legislators to screen and confirm Mr Adelami as the new deputy governor.
Before the confirmation, deputy speaker Abayomi Akinruntan, who submitted the report, recommended confirming Mr Adelami’s appointment.
Mr Akinruntan said the nominee was properly screened and responded eloquently to all questions raised by the committee.
According to him, Mr Adelami also clearly understands the position, stressing that he possesses the required academic qualifications, is physically, mentally and emotionally stable, and is fit to accomplish the task.
He added that Mr Adelami, who hails from Owo as former Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, also possesses the required experience, charisma, and much-needed exposure to function effectively in the office.
Oluwole Ogunmolasuyi, the majority leader, moved the motion for the report to be considered and the nominee to be confirmed.
Mr Ogunmolasuyi’s motion was seconded by Felix Afe, representing Akoko North West II.
The speaker, who ruled for the nominee’s confirmation, urged him to do his best as he prepared to serve the people.
Responding, Mr Adelami commended Mr Aiyedatiwa for nominating him, promising not to betray the confidence reposed in him.
He also lauded the lawmakers for the screening and confirmation, noting that promoting understanding between arms of government will be his priority.
