Ahmed Lawan, lawmaker who represents Yobe North at the upper legislative chamber has emerged the President of the 9th Senate.
Mr Lawan defeated Ali Ndume in the election conducted by the management of the National Assembly to emerge head of the red chamber.
Reacting to his defeat, Mr Ndume stood up from his seat at the red chamber and congratulated his colleague through handshake for defeating him at the election.
Reacting to the development, Femi Fani-Kayode, former Aviation Minister, congratulated the Yobe lawmaker on his emergence as Senate President praying for God’s guidance as he discharges his duty.
“Congratulations to Senator Ahmed Ibrahim Lawan who has emerged as Nigeria’s Senate President. May God guide you,” the former minister tweeted on Tuesday.
Similarly, Orji Kalu, representing Abia North, congratulated his former roommate at the tertiary institution for emerging leader of the National Assembly.
“Senator Ahmed Lawan my former room mate in the university of maiduguri @OfficialAPCNg is officially the President of the 9th National Assembly @NGRSenate. Congratulations to him and all Nigerians,” the former Abia governor said in a tweet.
