Kano explosion that shattered buildings, killed 4, injured many, caused by gas cylinder not bomb – Police

Kano Police Command claims the explosion that shattered a nearby school buildings and injured many in Sabon Gari area of the state was caused by a gas cylinder.

The explosion which occurred Tuesday morning killed four persons, Commissioner of Police, Sama’ila Dikko, confirmed while addressing journalists when he visited the blast scene.

The police chief denied schoolchildren were among the dead.

“It is not a bomb explosion, it is a gas explosion,” Mr Dikko explained. “A gas cylinder explosion because there is a welder, just by the place, and he is the first victim in this situation.”

Muhammad Garba, the state Commissioner for Information, in his own account said the incident took place at an animal feed store opposite the school along Aba Road, Sabon Gari area of Fagge local government.

Suicide bomb blast?

Meanwhile, a screenshot of a security personnel, apparently reporting the incident to his superior has gone viral. The report made on WhatsApp indicated that the incident was a bomb blast by a suicide bomber said to have killed himself and three others when prevented from entering the school premises which had its buildings shattered.

Below the explanation of the incident, pictures from the blast scene were attached and one of it showed the remains of the said suicide bomber.

Chidi Odinkalu, a Nigerian human rights activist, also shared the screenshot which punctured the claim of the police and government official.
