The 2019 presidential election petition tribunal has delivered judgement in an application filed by the opposition to inspect the electronic server of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Atiku Abubakar, candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in this year’s presidential election and his party had sought the permission of the Presidential Election Tribunal to crosscheck the computer database if the electoral body.
The opposition candidate who is challenging the outcome of the February 23 exercise believes he won the race, according electronic results allegedly obtained from the commission’s database, this is despite denial from INEC who said it doesn’t have a server.
In a unanimous ruling on Monday, a five-man panel of the tribunal, led by Justice Mohammed Garba, dismissed the application filed by Atiku and the PDP, to that effect.
The tribunal said granting order for the inspection of the server which INEC said does not exist amount to the tribunal agreeing that a server actually exists.
