Tanko Yakasai, founding member of Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) has confirmed the arrest of his son, Salihu Tanko-Yakasai, who is an aide to governor Umar Ganduje of Kano State.
Mr Tanko-Yakasai was picked up after asking his principal’s ally, President Muhammadu Buhari, to step down from office if he could not deal with terrorists decisively.
He was reacting to the abduction of over three hundred schoolgirls kidnapped from Zamfara State.
A spokesman of the Kano State government confirmed his colleague was arrested by the State Security Service (SSS).
Narrating how his son was arrested, the father said his son was on his way to a barbing saloon when he was picked up.
“Yes, Salihu is with the security operatives since yesterday (Friday),” the father told Punch Newspapers, “He was arrested on his way to a barbing saloon. But I cannot confirm to you whether he is here in Kano or somewhere else.”
Unconfirmed reports suggest the governor’s aide previously suspended for criticising the president has been moved to Abuja headquarters of the secret police.
The spokesman of the self-styled Department of State Services, Peter Afunanya, could not be reached as at press time for comments.
Mr Ganduje is also yet to react to the development.
