Helping Fubara become governor is a mistake I will correct – Wike

Nyesom Wike, federal capital territory minister, says he made a mistake by installing Governor Similanayi Fubara as his successor.

Mr Wike spoke at the weekend when he visited the state during a civic reception for Chief George Thompson Sekibo at Ogu-Bolo in celebration of the latter’s 36 years in public service.

“I want to say this clearly: in life, we make mistakes,” the minister said. I have made a mistake. I own it up and I say God forgive me. I have said all of you forgive me. But we will correct it at the appropriate time.”

The tussle involving the minister and the governor degenerated and has factionalised members of the Rivers State House of Assembly (RSHA).

The peace deal brokered by President Bola Tinubu appears to have collapsed with recent developments in the state.

On Friday, a state high court prohibited Pro-Wike loyalists in the RSHA from parading themselves as lawmakers. The suit was instituted by Pro-Fubara legislators.

Urging his loyalists not to be afraid that they have not lost their seats, Wike said he is ensuring his foes are making mistakes by getting them angry.

“Don’t be afraid. Nobody will remove you as lawmakers,” he assured, adding that: “Most of you don’t understand. This is our work. Our business is to make them to fear. That is what I am doing.

“We will make them to be angry every day and they will continue to make mistakes.”

Meanwhile, Governor Fubara has vowed to teach his opponents political arithmetics, saying he should not be underrated.
