Bola Tinubu, frontline presidential aspirant, has urged President Muhammadu Buhari to hand over power to him after the expiration of the latter’s tenure next year.
Mr Tinubu made the call on Thursday when he visited the respective palaces of Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi and the Owa Obokun of Ijesaland, Oba Adekunle Aromolaran.
Informing his hosts about his life-long presidential ambition, the former Lagos governor said there is need for the outgoing president, who aspires to be lazing around, to return the favour he got prior to the 2015 general election which saw him ousting the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) after severally failing to do so in the past.
“We went around the country in 2013 to campaign for Buhari. Again in 2019, we stood with him and he won,” Mr Tinubu said. “He (Buhari) will soon finish his tenure. I am saying they should not just leave the post; they should hand it over to me. I cannot demand it alone. I must seek your assistance.
“If monarchs in the region unite and ask for it, if we ask for the presidency gently that they should hand it over to us, I am ready to take over.
“I am competent, capable and fit to pilot the affairs of the country to greatness,” he added.
The All Progressive Congress (APC) chieftain recently said he was ready to fight dirty to clinch the position.
