Former senator representing Eket Senatorial district, Nelson Effiong, has regained freedom after spending over 50 days with his abductors.
Mr Effiong who served at the red chamber of the National Assembly was abducted on September 5 in Akwa Ibom. The kidnappers kept him in custody and demanded for N200 million ransom a week after.
“Yes, he was released this night,” Antai Effiong, his younger brother who is a lawyer confirmed to Premium Times without details of how the former lawmaker regained freedom.
The lawyer said his elder brother regained freedom Friday night around 9pm.
A political activist Deji Adeyanju had recently claimed the All Progressive Congress (APC) chieftain downplayed rising insecurity at the eight Senate but TODAY POLITICS could not independently verify the claim.
