Kayode Fayemi, the state governor of Ekiti State has emerged the chairman of the Nigerian Governors Forum (NGF).
Mr Fayemi clinched the position on Wednesday at the meeting of the NGF in Abuja.
Outgoing chairman of the forum, Abdulaziz Yari, governor of Zamfara State made the announcement after the gathering.
Mr Yari said Fayemi emerged by consensus after being nominated by Nasir El-rufai, governor of Kaduna State.
Mr El-rufai who was interested in the position later stepped down for the Ekiti governor after pleas from their party, the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC).
Aminu Tambuwal, Sokoto State governor also emerged the deputy chairman of the NGF. He belongs to the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Mr Fayemi speaking on his emergence promised to carry all members along despite their political differences.
