Olumide Akpata, a former president of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has been declared winner of the Labour Party (LP) governorship primary in Edo state.
The deputy governor of Abia State, Ikechukwu Emeta, who is also the returning officer for the election declared Mr Akpata the winner of the election after he scored 316 votes to win the exercise held in Benin City, the state capital, on Friday.
In August last year, the corporate lawyer resigned from his law firm, TEMPLARS, as a senior partner and joined the opposition party the next month.
In October, he declared interest in the Edo governorship race, pinning his decision on the love he has for the people.
With his emergence at the primary, he will now face candidates of the All Progressive Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who are also in the governorship election that will take place in September.
