Nyesom Wike, the governor of Rivers State and chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party Campaign Council (PDPCC) for the Edo State governorship election, has responded to plot to forcefully isolate him during the Edo guber poll.
His Kano counterpart and chairman of the All Progressive Congress Campaign Council (APCCC), Umar Ganduje, had boasted that Mr Wike will be isolated and by the time he recovers himself, the Edo exercise, scheduled to take place on September 19, would have been over.
But responding after being inaugurated to lead the 99-man committee of the opposition party today, Wike said the threat had exposed the plot by the ruling party to take undue advantage of security agents.
While saying Ganduje was not his match, Wike asked reporters between him and the Kano governor – caught on camera receiving gratifications – who deserves to be isolated.
“Between me and a man who has been caught pocketing dollars, who deserves to be isolated?” the Rivers State governor queried.
Mr Ganduje was captured on camera receiving wraps of dollars from an unknown hands in 2018. The news portal – Daily Nigerian – which published the video clips said the funds amounting to over $5million were kickbacks of infrastructural projects going on across Kano State.
The governor whose face showed clearly in the video denied receiving the gratifications and instituted litigations to frustrate the investigations of the allegations by the Kano State House of Assembly.
The second term governor constitutionally enjoys immunity from criminal prosecution.
