Governor Mai Buni of Yobe State has stepped down as the chairman of the caretaker committee of the All Progressive Congress (APC).
Mr Buni stepped down on Wednesday and handed over the ruling party to Abdullahi Adamu, the new chairman elected at the national convention of the party at the weekend.
Mr Adamu who was the concensus candidate of the party was reportedly backed by President Muhammadu Buhari to clinch the position.
Six of his rivals stepped down, with many saying they did so to respect the choice of Mr Buhari.
The brief handover ceremony took place at the National Working Committee (NWC) Hall of the National Secretariat of the party in Abuja.
New officials of the party elected at the weekend exercise were present.
