The presidential election petitions tribunal has dismissed an application for a live broadcast of its proceedings on matters arising from the February 25 presidential election.
The All Progressives Congress APC) and President-elect Bola Tinubu had opposed the applications for live broadcast of court proceedings separately filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Labour Party (LP).
In a unanimous ruling on Monday, the court held that the application has no basis in any known law or judicial procedure.
“Televising of our proceedings is not backed by Nigerian laws,” the court ruled. “This panel only has the power to hear and determine petitions before it.
“There is nowhere in Nigeria laws that provision is made for the televising of this petition.
“This application is devoid of merit and is accordingly dismissed,” the five-member panel added.
