The Nigerian Senate has rejected the request of President Muhammadu Buhari appealing to it to amend the new electoral act.
In a read at the floor of the Senate on Tuesday, Mr Buhari urged the lawmakers to amend Section 84(12) of the legislation which prevents appointive political office holders from contesting for election from party primary level without resigning.
The bill was thrown out after Senate leader Senator Yahaya Abdullahi led the debate for second reading of the bill.
This is the first time the red chamber will be rejecting any request of the Nigerian leader.
