The National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) has ordered radio and television broadcast stations to stop using Twitter henceforth.
The directive is contained in a statement issued on Monday by Armstrong Idachaba, NBC acting director-general.
Mr Idachaba who quoted Section 2(1) r, 3.11.2 and 5.6.3 said it will be unpatriotic to violate the ban on Twitter by the federal government last week.
“Note that it will be unpatriotic for any broadcaster in Nigeria to continue to patronise the suspended Twitter as a source of its information therefore strict compliance is enjoined,” he directed.
The directive comes barely three days after Nigerians resort to the use of Virtual Private Network (VPN) to bypass the restriction on use of the micro-blogging platform.
They, including governor Nasir El-rufai of Kaduna State, continued to defy prosecution threat of the federal government and has been using the VPN Twitter.
