There is an alleged plot to impeach Senate President Ahmad Lawan as the leader of the National Assembly.
Though not confirmed by TODAY POLITICS moves to get the top lawmaker out of the position thickened on Friday with lawmakers from the All Progressive Congress (APC) vowing to oppose the move.
Senator Orji Kalu, while speaking with AIT on Friday, gave credence to the rumored plot, saying he and his colleagues in the APC, will ensure the mission is thwarted if the plotters attempt to strike at the red chamber.
Another APC senator, Abdullahi Adamu, reiterated similar claims.
Mr Lawan has always clashed with lawmakers of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at the upper legislative chamber on national matters.
His recent comment, wherein he opposed the restructuring, one of the demands of Southern State Governors in Nigeria, is said to have further emboldened his aggrieved antagonistic colleagues who are plotting his removal from office.
The PDP lawmakers believe to be championing the move are said have found few recruits among APC senators who have also been resentful of Lawan’s leadership style of late, especially what they perceived as his “blind loyalty” to President Muhammadu Buhari who ensured played a vital role in his emergence as Senate President.
